Panama Maritime Authority’s new automatic platform will benefit Seafarers worldwide
The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) , has made available to all its users a technological platform which allows online access from anywhere in the world, to different services such as documentation of Seafarers, in a record time, with transparency and security through the implementation of the Seafarers Automated Application (SAA) .
According to the Director of Seafarers, Magdalena Carrera, this application aims to increase both efficiency and satisfaction over the service offered to those working on ships flying the Panamanian flag, providing a service that works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with greater security controls throughout the complete flow of documentation of Seafarers, starting on the collection of applications for certificates, endorsements securities, and endorsements and duplicate courses up to the delivery of the final documentation to our crews.
Carrera revealed that currently the Panama Maritime Authority has executed more than 60% of the program implementation on this new application, which is available at the Documentation Regional Offices in New York, USA; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Seoul , South Korea, and recently in Manila, Philippines; and soon in London, UK and Piraeus, Greece. It is planned that all Consulates shall be using this new system later this year.
This technological tool replaces the currently used manual system for processing documents of Seafarers and eliminates the possibility of issuing temporary blank certificates by requiring prefetching of personal and biometric data of the marines, with its corresponding documentation support, and automatically generates the appropriate fee charge to be paid.
